hey guys im lookin at puttin a 5 speed behind my 390. i was lookin at nv4500 but to much money and not what im lookin for. i know that the clark 280 series from an FT will fit with the FT bell and flywheel/clutch. i heard about some guys that have the 285v with there 390's. is this the only 280 series that came behind a FT. also when i go to look for one are the clarks the only five speeds used in the 1 and 1.5 tons? if not how do i teel a clark apart? thanks guys
Be careful with the FT flywheel on a 390 - the 390 is a neutral balance flywheel, and the FT is most likely (almost positively) a flywheel with a counterweight on it for an externally balanced crankshaft.
Also, keep an eye on starter ring tooth pitch and the starter itself. If you use an FT flywheel with the FT starter ring, there's a good chance you will need an FT starter to match it. Otherwise, just use an FE starter ring and keep the original starter.

Cool one, thanks. :)
Didn't even think about that being a problem too.
Ford, I swear, they liked to make new parts didn't they? :)
But my plan is to use as much of the 361FT's stuff as I possibly can.
