Talking Aod ?

Is there anyway to tell if you have cast iron or stamped steel drums in a AOD before teardown to order the rebuild kit.Here is the info off the tranny tag

according to this, it looks like cast iron from 83-91

Ok trans is apart has stamped steel drums BUTTTTTTTTT
In taking it apart whe it came time to remove the 3-4 accumulator piston and spring.All that was there is a empty hole zip nata nothing.Book say some my be diff in looks but it doesnt say there wouldn't be onI drove the rig frome Tacoma Wa to Everett Wa around 70 -80 miles It shifted just find wend in to OD no slipping (only reason rebulding it is cause its out on the beach and putting the motor and trans in as one .The flulid was really dark and diddnt want to change it and filter and have something go back.so in profile is pic of what Im talking about on tranny

Some one has to know this.Did ford quit useing this 3-4 accumulator piston or did the PO have work done and it was left out and if so how could it work.I have hunted all over where we took it a part in cash it came out when our backs were turn(spring loaded and maybe shot out)

I'd say if it was working before it should work after the rebuild. You might get a better answer in the transmission forum
