changed spark plug gap, lost MPG's

I check and recheck pretty much everything I do under the hood. The plug gap is re-checked about three times before it actually goes in the hole. If I happen to tap the head with the plug, I re-check gap again before installing.
Quicklook2, Jesus Christ, give me some freakin' time. I work 10+ hour shifts. Was just down in the garage. Reset the ECM, pulled codes (clear), and discovered a bad u-joint ("clunk" has been annoying me since Saturday).
