btw: What is wrong with your old speedo? If it does not work, that could be caused by a stripped speedometer gear in the transmission, or a broken cable.
There are two different gears. One on the output shaft (DRIVE gear), one on the end of the cable (DRIVEN gear).
The usual gear that strips is the plastic DRIVEN gear. Still available from Ford...there are 6 different tooth counts...the most expensive gear is $3.47.
Inside the speedometer cable's housing is a woven steel core...it could have snapped in two.
You can buy a replacement speedo core from a parts store, cut it to fit, install in the housing.
Make sure to lube it with either graphite or white lithium grease (light coat).
The reason the core snaps...is...it dries out, then binds up in the housing.
