Are you asking about using a rubber line?

You could probably use that, but its better to keep the metal line.

What happened to the OEM metal line? Those don't usually have to ever be replaced.

so long as its not touching anything it should be just fine, however on a more personal note (if thats what you want to call it) a rubber fuel line just plain looks sloppy. some steel line and a 10 doller tubing bender, or and old pulley, would look alot better, and would last longer too.

OK, so you want to put a slip on hose fitting at the filter head and then just clamp the hose on to what is left of the hard line at the injector pump,
correct?

That should work fine even if it won't look as nice. If nothing else its a decent repair until you can locate another line with fittings at a wrecker or something.

Are you talking about the supply line or return line?

I would suspect they have a steel line there for a reason, what that reason is I couldn't say.

See no reason FUEL line wouldn't work, it is only a few pounds of pressure. (7 to 10 IIRC)

Yup, I say FUEL for the same reason others have!

There is nothing hot enough in that area to cause that.

Find a IH dealer and get a new one.

Go to a Salvage yard.

Buy a length of steel tube and make one.

Your choice.

I always go to a parts house and buy Trannsmission cooler line, it is rated for around 200 psi, it looks the same as rubber fuel line but it is a lot tougher.
