58 ford new steering wheel install

well i started cleaning up my steering column. and i painted it, looks really nice but i am now ready to install the new grant steering wheel and i went out and bought the installation kit, but ive noticed that my steering column dont have the wire that runs threw the center of steering column shaft for the horn. guess the previous owner pulled it out. (stock steering column) My question to anyone that knows, couldnt i just run some regular automotive wire threw this column to make the horn work and it would work? And if so what guage wire should i use? I dont need the OEM stock horn wire do i?

Yeah, it's nothing special as far as wire (like 18 ga). But some horn wires have a "button" crimped on the top, that is the contact for blowing the horn. I would guess the Grant wheel just has a regular terminal connection?

the grant installation kit has a wire that connects to the retainer contactor ring. this ring is part of the horn. So i was just thinking i could connect a long wire run threw the steering column and connect that to the wire coming off this contactor ring and it would work. thanks for the info and what guage of wire to use.

18 ga. assumes you are using a horn relay.
