Hey pitshop,
Nice chop!
I shaved my rails without a chop and really like the look, here's a pic just after paint shop. I evidently didnt get all the contamination out from the pinch welds because I'm starting to see a couple of blisters under the two year old paint along the old rail line....
If I ever re-do things I'm gonna "chop the H*** out of it"!

you go slow.. cut in small segments, 2-3 inches, spot weld, cut another, repeat. you don't want the top to pop loose..

so you cut a slot outside to the body, then cut that segment off.. spot weld at the new starting edge, repeat.

then clean up the segments and more spot welds, 1 each, then repeat..

I shaved mine then added a 1/4" round rod blended into my visior, this creates a small edge over the top of the door

Go look at randyjack's gallery he removed part of them and then flared the rest into the roof (hope I have the right person). Just another way of doing it.

Shaved rails are in the plans for mine too.
The rails on my truck were really the only spot anywhere on the truck with rot. I can't wait to get my own welder so I can do this mod.

I think it is a clean and slick look, and in AZ we don't get enough rain to curse not having drip rails.

sdetweil, I like how you closed the back seam...you close that up the same way as the rail?... alternating spotwelds going slow until filled, or is it more body filler?

Thanks, I had that thing just tacked in place for a good two monnths before I committed to it.. I really like it, it breaks up the look of the high forhead, and I do have a goal of being original.

That it does, I like the proportions a lot better, the cab looks better sized to my tastes.

Plus, you can't be original
