460 or bust?
ive been trying to decide which engine to put into my 72 f100. it has a 400 in it now and im about to pull the gas guzzling oil leaker out of there. i can get a 460 brand new for a halfway decent price and was wondering if the transmission is the same as the 400, if it is the same length. i am trying to get away with using my tranny crossmember. also, are the steel motor mounts the same? i have at least a month before im going to need to get ready for this.

The 400M has the same bellhousing pattern as the 385 engines.

rucks and car tend to use different brackets for accessories. try tyo get a truck motor or at least the brackets. It will be help full to snap some pictures before you take them off. When I did mine I had to get a larger exhaust pipe 'flare' to fit my 460 manifolds. just a 1-2 ft piece. I also used L&M motor mounts. The motor its self bolts right in without moving the trany.
