Normal Gauge readings

This is something that should have been beaten to death, I know.. but I have not done the search correct, so I have come up with nothing yet..

What does everyone see as normal gauge readings?

On the expressway, 70 mph, 2000 rpm I saw
5 psi boost
190* trans
800* pyro.

normal??

By the way, I am actually doing 75 at 70 per GPS..

Everything looks normal if you are in 80E, except the trans temp. IMO, it seems a tag warm. I have yet to get about 150 empty.

Pat, everything looks good except your tranny temp. Looks a little high to me. You may want to invest in a 6.0 cooler or the Tru-Cool cooler. I have the Tru - Cool.

Whats the temp where you are?? If it's 80 or 90 outside, 190 sounds right... if not then i concur with Clay

Yup, a rule of thumb is 60-100 degrees over ambient temps is where the tranny should be.

Okay.. kind of what I was thinking.. temps around here are around 65 today.. normal tran temps have been about 130 -140. with the occasional 180*.. I might just have to take a trip and see what she does on the whole run, then figure it out from there.. I also know Chris talks about the check valve to be replaced, but Mark says it should never go bad..I will follow up on this.. Thanks Guys!!!!

At 70 MPH/2000 RPMs (my tach shows 2000 at 71-72 FWIW), I get about 500-600 EGTs, 2psi boost, and anywhere from 140-180* on the trans. If I'm hammering it, it gets up there. I have stock cooling on mine. Mind you I have a 1.15 A/R exhaust housing...

EDIT: I've had my trans temp over 200 empty, but that was during the summer, close to 100*, and REALLY hammering it. That was also before tranny mods & syn fluid. Haven't had it over 200 yet with the current setup.

Towing my 7500 lb camper this past weekend I never saw much more than 170, even pulling big hills. The outside air temp was 40 - 50 degrees.

I am running a syn fluid in here now, but I am also running a kevlar type clutch pack. I should look into the kevlar clutches and see what to expect there. I would think nothing with the way she shifts, I don't think the clutches are barely used .

The tranny temps on mine running 50-60 MPH at a 60 degree temp are no more than 130-140 degrees, it flucuates a couple degrees per throttle response. Mercon V used here. Your other no#s look like mine, good luck Pat.

I am looking into the Tru-cool now. At the same time I am on the horn with my trans guy.. It is my hope that I will have his discount since I am protecting his work..
I am looking at the 47391 right now.. we shall see though..

At cruising speed my pyro is usually 600-700, trans I can't recall as it's been a while now since I drove it long enough to get the trans fully warm. Yesterday while towing a loaded 3 horse trailer, may 60ish outside temp, it seemed to stick around 130-140 with stock cooling.

This may be a dumb question Pat, but when you installed the sending unit on the trans did you use pipe dope or anything? I'm wondering if that would add increased resistance and a false reading, or maybe your sender itself is off?

I used teflon tape, no dope.. didnt want to rishk letting it flow through any unwanted places. The type of thermo coupling is the same as my production type, so the dope shouldnt be an issue..
