I would change transmission fluid. My stuff is super dirty and i'm waiting on Schaffer's Synthetic to come in. I'm running about 150 too. get it changed and i'm sure you will see a drop.. a 6.0 trans cooler would help too..
Trans was just rebuilt, less then 6,000 miles ago.. Using a synthetic oil all ready..Spoke to the trans guy.. He is telling me this temp is fine.. all day..I have the ******* thinking about it..especially since I have so many others to compare with. He is expecting no more then 175* with this unit towing now though..
600-700 Pyro. Running at 70mph 2-4 psi boost. Trans was around 120. Ran to home depot yesterday on a 50 degree day. Pulling my 10k camper in the summer months my trans will get to 160-180. Never over 180, mostly hovers around 160 ish. And I have a nice big cooler. No chip of sorts either.
Not sure but it is huge..I ran real cool temps while pulling and i climbed under to look what the previous owner did.. It was samwitched between the inter cooler and radiator. It is almost the same size as the radiator.
Was going to look into it one day so see what it is.. Factory/aftermarket/ Trucool.. etc.. Just havn't had the time.. Retired folks pulled there camper around with the truck. I wonder when they put in the new Trans in 04 they also put in the cooler..
With a 6.0L cooler, my trans-temps are usually around 130ºF running empty, and maybe 145ºF towing a 7k load. EGT's around 600ºF, give or take 100ºF given the hills (the EGT basically doubles as an inclinometer). Boost around 2lbs-5lbs, and coolant settles in at 203ºF, while oil-temp settles in at 180ºF.
Okay, what I am seeing now is about 150 when sitting, or real slow traffic. ON the expressway about 140
That's very good for the stock tranny cooler setup.
I went with the 6.0L cooler because I use my Ex to tow a 7k load up long inclines in the forest to get to the trails, and at the low speeds I drive (<20mph), the tranny tended to heat up and start heading past 210ºF.
If anything, now my tranny-fluid may be TOO cool, as it never gets above 165ºF, even when backing my trailer up my steep driveay and the converter is multiplying the torque.
Trans did climb to 150 at 65 miles per hour, EGT's dropped to 450-500..
Now it is time to Fix the HPOP leak, O rings are at the house, I Just need the time.
Good deal Pat! That trans cooler did you end up running? Are those egt's with the 4" turbo back exhaust?
I've been running the 6.0 trans cooler for a couple years now and have always had "higher than everyone else" temps. When I swapped motors, I rerouted my lines and took out approx. 4 feet of excess hose/line and I'm seeing lower temps now. I'll know more about towing temps next week.

The trans cooler was the one I listed up earlier in the thread..Seems to be doing a good job..
may be a dumb question but this is how you learn? if your egt sending unit is mounted in the drivers side manafold would exhaust change any readings from stock exhaust. the difference would be how fast you get rid of the heat right? it would still be the same temp coming out of the block?
