Well took it the the dealer and they said that number 8 injector is bad. Is the injector install as straight forward as pull the old out and put the new in or is there extra stuff that needs to be done?
Where is the cheapest place to buy rebuilt injectors?
Injector R&R is pretty straighforward as long as you do it right.
Meaning that you have to make sure that all the oil and fuel that falls out of the rails and into the combustion chamber is removed before you attempt to start it, you'll be fine.
I wouldn't bother with a rebuilt, I've had bad luck with them. Just pay the extra $100 or so and be assured of a good one.
It is the #8 injector thats bad. The guy at the parts store said that all the injectors 1-7 are the same but the #8 is different. Is there any truth to this? It is a early 99. Does anybody have the part numbers and know a good place to get one threw?
Before you put in a new injector pull the valve covers and check the UVCH connector and wire harness. You will have to pull the driver side anyway to replace #8. Or do this continuity test first.
Checking the ohms reading at the valve cover connector on the outside.

G G I I C I I G G
G=Glow Plug +
I = Injector +
C= Injector Common
***The injectors fire with a 115VDC signal from the IDM. Do Not pierce the wires to test.***
Test between "I" and "C" to test the injectors, should be less than 5.0 Ohms.
To check glow plugs Test between "G" and battery ground. Should be between 0.6 and 2.0 Ohms

An early 99 should not have the AE in #8 hole, all of the injectors should be AB's. If you do have the AE in #8, tell them to put an AB in anyways!
False. 94.5-97 have AA (90 cc) single shot injectors (IIRC Cali 97 models got split shots). Early 99's have AB (120cc) split shots, late 99-03 got AD (140cc) splits.
