i am new to fte and i have a 76 f250 4x2 and the vin says i have a 360 but i read somewhere(not really sure where) that the numbers on the block denote a 361. the block has D4TE and the reverse 501 on the front. the heads are D2TE-AA. does anyone know which block i have???
Actually Ford made a 361. It was mailnly an industrial engine I believe. I think it was in the same family with the 390, 360 etc. I have one in a F600. Not sure why everyone is so angry in their responses, but it is the day after tax day I guess.
My dad told me that a 361 or a 391 were pretty much 360s or 390s, with a steel crank, for truck applications. Is there really much difference between them? He's been working on Fords since 1958 or so.

361/391's are FT engines different than FE's.
330 H/D; 361; 391 have their own block and heads, crank etc.
The 330 M/D FT is related to FE engines, the 330 H/D, 361 and 391 are not.
