I have a pair of Weatherguard boxes on an 08 SD 4x4, but I put them in front of the wheel wells so I saved the open area at the back of the bed. I don't like them because I keep them full and whatever I need is always in the bottom. It will be a full lid crossbox next time. maybe i just carry too much stuff!
Those might be an option. Cost a little more, but would give me more room. I will have to do some measuring to see if one will fit beside my floor mounted chest.
I use them for trips where I need temporary dry storage in the bed. It has the added feature of rolling the whole thing into the garage or house when not in use.
The built in boxes that dodge use would be no good to me anyway I have a head ache rack and side rails on my truck
I also want something that will be secure, so I don't have to remove tons of gear at night, yet match the checkerplate dry box and headache rack. That way, it will also match the stainless flaps and bug deflector, as well as the alluminium wheels and chrome grill
This is a picture of my truck at a site. They are hard to see, but it shows my dry box at the front and a RTK rover in my homemade holder at the back driverside corner.
The idea with the porkchop box is that it goes at the back on the passenger side. I also have my dry box mounted 5" above the bed so I can stack stake bundles under it where they keep clean and dry. If it is 52+" long then I can put range poles in it and 8+" wide allows me to put survey legs in it.
I have one in my truck. I like it alot. I keep my towing stuff (hitches, tow strap ect.) my jumper cables, and a few misc things. It is lockable, but seems kinda cheesy for the lock. I have a cap on my truck, so I was looking for more organization, rather than security.
I just took a pair of Weatherguard's off my 08' SD and replaced with a RK cross box. I haul too much big stuff to use the pork chop boxes. These are for sale in Texas if you are interested!
I already have a full depth chest for the big stuff, just need more space yet
My plan is to get just one, as a second one would interfeer with my range pole holder that I use when moving around jobsites with fully assembaled RTK Rovers.
