Question Air box removal

Can anyone tell me how to remove the bottom half of the air filter box on a 1999 Frord Ranger V6? I want to get to the vacuum resevoir that is underneath. I can't see any mechanical fastners holding it in place.

Thanks- Jack

It's hard, I got tierd of trying on my 04, so I just broke it out. I was putting a new AEM intake on it anyway. On my 09, I got the airaid quickfit intake that uses the bottom half of the original airbox just so I wouldn't have to mess with it again. Maybe someone has some advice besides breaking it out ha ha, good luck!!!

If you figure it out let us know - I sure couldn't get it out of there.

Guys,

I found out how to remove the darn thing. $15.00 well spent on a web site called ask.com. You ask the question and a Ford tech (or an epert from what ever field) responds.

In this case the box in held in place by four very snug posts and rubber grommets, two on the bottom and two on the fender wall. A little coaxing with a long screw driver got the ball rolling.

When it is all said and done the vacuum reservoir isn't there, but I did find some junctiions and was able to trouble shoot my heater/defroster problem.

well if this helps any after looking to solve my problems i found out how to get the vac resevuar out, in my 06 at least, and its located not under but u can see it if u look in between ur air box and block, and there are 2 screws on the inside of ur wheel shroud ( what blocks crap from ur tires going into ur engin bay) that well let u get the darn thing loose as i said this is for my truck which is a 3.0L 2006 but i cant see ford changing much in the engine bay so hope it helps

I knew thats what held the airbox in, I tried WD-40 and when I pried it would start cracking. Of course patients isn't my strong suit. Once it was broke out, I could see that was all that was holding it, but "man", what a tight fit. After it was broke out, it wasn't near as hard to pop out the rubber grommets when I could get to them easier. I wasn't going through that again, so I bought the airaid quickfit intake system. I couldn't afford to break the airbox with the airaid as it uses the bottom of the original airbox. I liked this system better as it did a better job of protecting the new filter from the bottom. I'm glad it all worked out for you.

Stick a crowbar on the fender side of the airbox pull towards the engine with the might of all the gods. The first two grommets will come out. Then you can wrench upwards on the last two underneath the box. Got mine out without any damage to the housing.

Yank it out

You can remove the fasteners at the fender if you have them. Then reach under to hold down the piece with the grommets and yank to air filter housing out. A little oil on the grommets makes it easier for next time.
