just a question but why did you weld the tubes to the center section? the traction bars look real good by the way. what kinda tube did you use for the bars? thinking of building a set myself.
Josh, if you were not aware, axle wrap comes from the pinion spinning 90* from the ring gear, trying to wrap itself up around the ring gear, which has a leverage ratio of ~3-4:1 on the ring gear. When you add more torque, that pinion gets more leverage, and ends up wrapping the entire axle housing up. Well we put bars on the axle to stop movement, however stop movement of the TUBES. The centersection still has the urge to spin up, and on several cases, i've seen pictures of that center section pointed straight up. Welding the tubes to the housing as much as you can gives it more strength, and peace of mind. Now the pinion and ring/carrier are out, im debating on tacking the tubes on the inside of the housing too, just because it's there...
Nice job, the powdercoating sure makes it look factory!
Hopefully you don't have to grease your front joint too often, it'll be hard to get a grease gun too it.
It's definitely a great feeling building something yourself and being able to see the finished product. I help a neighbor build farm equipment and it's fun finish it and be able to go out and use it in the field.
