Thanks for the comments. Tonight i got one side positioned up front, clamped on, and slid the bar in it, and welded the tabs on the axle, straddling the outermost u-bolt, centered up under it. That way it triangulates the axle somewhat, and prevents side to side movement under a turn. Also drilled the front box out to accept some bolt holes, progress is coming along well.
Glad that worked out for you. You make a lot more power then me, so I hope you are also going to weld the axle tubes to the differential housing. Otherwise someday you may end up with your pinion pointing straight up. I welded them on both my truck, and our early 99. Whatever setting you are most comfortable with on a T joint, will also work for welding the tubes to the housing. Just be sure to keep your torch angle consistant.
Yep, i am going to weld the tubes to the center section. Can i just clean them up and just use a regular wire? Cast iron isnt an issue? I also want to make driveline shields too.
Yes, regular MIG wire works well. The 100% proper way is to pre-heat, and post heat, and use nickle welding rod (standard stick welding). But standard mig wire is also acceptable, and what I and most people do successfully.
Got some progress made today.. Everything is almost ready, drill a few holes in the front bracket and i can take the bars and the frame brackets to the powdercoaters.. Click on the picture above and then go from there..
Looks great Kris. My procomp traction bars came in today, Ill have 550 or so Hp an 8.5" lift on 38's...So when the procomp ones break ill pay you to build me a set!
Well here is a little update.. got the parts back from the powdercoater, looks good till *** hat dropped one of the brackets on the parking lot.. other than that.. looks nice and smooth. Drilled the holes in the frame, i need to get me one bolt and some washers and a nut, but other than that, my rear end should be able to handle all the power i can throw at it with a 7.3. .
