I'll assume it turns over.
How fast, They need to spin pretty fast, Good batteries are a must!
Not unless some one wired one in, they come from the factory with a GP (Glow Plug) controller. Not a push button.
Do you get a WTS (Wait to Start) light on the dash?
How long does it stay on, 10 seconds or so is about right, much less and you likely have bad GP's.
To test the GP, use a volt/ohm meter set to continuity (ohms), unplug the GP's, put one lead on the GP terminal, the other to ground ... It should show like a dead short.
Does the GP solenoid click on and off?
Does the GP solenoid pass power through it when energized?
Plugging in is for the block heater.
