96 f-250 E40D Trouble!

howdy all. i am new to this but ive had enough with these trannys. i currently own a 96 f-250 with a 460c.i. motor with a overdrive transmission. E40D I believe it is. i previously owned a 94 351c.i. with the overdrive tranny. neadless to say these are plow trucks. the 96 is my baby and every time i start pushing snow the tranny starts leaking from the overflow. it has a huge tranny cooler on it and still leaks; and when it rains it pours. this stuff comes spilling out, not just a drip. no other problems any other time but after a few times pushing i had to set it aside this past winter. well now i want to make sure i can use this truck next season. It has now started to shift really hard out of first gear. any ideas as of whats goin on. also if i have to replace the tranny. is there anyhting i can do to swap out this model for something that can handle plowing. need help! thanks

There is no overflow on a transmission. If the fluid is coming out of the vent on top of the trans it was probably overfilled. If it's coming out of the bellhousing it probably is the torque converter hub seal. They are well known to leak when the torque converter gets hot. Plowing will get the torque converter very hot.

The fix is to remove the trans and replace the torque converter hub seal with an aftermarket part. They can take the heat a lot better than the stock seal.
