Stock or aftermarket transmission oil cooler?
Hello All. I have a 2006 2WD Expy with the standard towing package. We tow a travel trailer weighing in at around 5900lbs. On our second trip, the transmission temp. peaked at 204deg. for about 15min according to the ScanGauge as we were bucking some headwind. I would like to add/change a transmission cooler to prevent these higher temps.
After some research, I have found the HD towing package came with a larger tranny oil cooler along with some other parts(radiator, etc.) My question is, would I be better off installing the Ford HD tranny cooler ($120parts) or going with aftermarket coolers say, from B&M or Derale? I'm not sure how much more cooling the Ford HD cooler will give me for the money. How will an aftermarket cooler affect the warranty?
I am not worried about too much cooling as we live in S. Florida and do not plan on taking any trips to cold weather. Right now I really like the B&M coolers with the electric fans,($$$) but am not sure which way to go yet. Any opinions/experiences are welcome!!
Thanks!!
Dave
