Well 70 miles into my 200 mile drive home this past weekend towing my 2000lb boat I had to stop for a red light, about 2 miles after taking off from the light my tranny pukes approx 2-3 quarts of oil. I cant tell if it came from the top vent or ??? At 75mph 2-3 qts oil coats everything under the truck.
The tranny temp was 180 outside temp was 85. The fluid does not smell burnt and is nice and red. Drove home and no other problems.
Do yall think I should get 20qts and do a complete oil change or just let it go and keep an eye on the level for a while?
I should have known being the RHN April Calendar winner ()something was gonna happen. I just made 103,000 miles
Try to find where it came from. If it seems to be coming out of the tranny inspection hole on the flexplate area underneath, it might be the t/c seal that has gotten too hot and allowed the fluid to puke out. Unfortunately, if this reoccurs the tranny needs to be pulled and the seal gets replaced. This happened to me with my old '99 Superduty truck while on vacation in Wyoming.
If it's seal, they make a high silicone version to replace it. There was a note about this with the replacement seal in my trans rebuild gasket kit. It is supposed to eliminate this problem.

Yes, forgot to mention that. Brian at BTS mentioned that when he installed my tranny.
Just peeked under the truck, it looks like the fluid came from the hole in the inspection plate under the flywheel.
So oh great ones this seal you speak of, is it on the tranny or the t/c?
Sounds like a $5 seal and $500 labor charge.
Seal drives into the pump housing and TC hub goes thru it. You would have to remove the trans and TC to change out. It would be a good time to install the TransGo Tugger valve body and pump mods at the same time. Trans..OK, other than the leak?
If it doesn't continue to leak, I wouldn't worry about it for now.
That sucks Costa. If I see a spoon full of tranny fluid anywhere on my tranny, I will head to BTS. I seem to be gun shy beings I have the '01.
Trans is ok I think. I am just so gun shy about our trannies too!! I would hate to replace the seal then find out I need to head to BTS because it ends up blowing completely.

I am keeping a real close eye on the tranny to see if it is going to leak. I need to get the underside all cleaned off and look real closely. I keep seeing a drop of oil at the inspection plate hole, just dont know if is residual that is inside there or if its leaking a little.
I dont have the resources to drop the tranny so I will have to pay someone to drop the tranny and replace the seal then get the Tugger valve body and do that myself.

All kidding aside, you are not that far off - it's a $17 part and a $500 labor charge IIRC. Put a big 'ol damper on my vacation to Yellowstone that year. I've read that the seal does reseal and you maybe fine for now. It's a tough spot to be in. Sorry pal, Do you have anyone close that can pull the tranny? That's the big problem and the labor cost.

Yeah I would hate to spend $500 to have someone drop the tranny replace the seal and then the tranny pops the next week. Then I would have to have BTS ship me a tranny and have to spend another chunk to get the tranny swapped out again. Talk about putting a damper on a vacation. By the way what the heck is a vacation?
I'm watching this thread very closely. I have a similar problem with my 2002 f350 7.3L.
When I back up my fifth wheel trailer up the hill into my driveway, I **** tranny fluid all over the street and driveway. It is coming from that same hole in the inspection plate.
Can you tell me more about the Transgo Tugger?
I'm worried about blown transmissions and $$$$$$$$. I would much rather spend money on upgrades like a HD torque converter...
I have heard about the problem of the tranny pissing fluid out of it when backing up steep or long grades and the advice about putting your truck into 4x4 low when backing is the best advice.
I am going to be watching my tranny very close for the next few days and see if it is going to leak. If it doesent I think I will chage the fluid and pray, if it does i'll crawl into the corner and cry!! lol
Welcome to FTE, there is alot of knowledge on this site and there are alot of knowledgeable people here. Just look at the people that have replied to my and your thread they are the best, Chris, Rick, Roland, Jim, Brandon, Scott just to name a few.
Now I am worried, Was under the truck today and noticed tranny fluid all over the pan, Could not tell where it was from. Cleaned it off and will have to check it tomorrow when I go for a ride. I dont see any fluid on the floor of garage so I am thinking that its only leaking while driving....
AAAWWW SH.... I forgot to check the fluid before I left the garage... Mental note.... do that before driving..
