i have the same problem!! it does not idle good, are these parts for an explorer 2002 xls 4.0l sohc as well?? ( the part number is F77Z-6A785-AB sometimes with the heat they become very brittle and crack, they are made of plastic, they cost about $18.66 and it also comes with the o-ring seal that I told you that cracks with the heat generated under the manifold. These are the additional parts you will need to do the job:
F77Z-6C342-AB PVC hose assy $41.98
YL2Z-9E436-AA Intake Gasket $3.69
YL2Z-9461-AA Intake gasket $1.64
thanks for your help.
I took my Explorer to a dealership, and the replaced the intake gaskets. It runs much better, but it is still not 100%. I mentioned the oil separator, and the technician said that he did not see any oil or any other indication the the OS was bad.
I still think that there is a small air/vacuum leak somewhere. The manager said that that would throw up a CEL, but I am not so sure. I also think that the EGR valve can be sticking just enough to be aggravating.
I'm also beginning to wonder if the throttle body is a little gummed up. I had the CC on, and going down a hill, it began to "hunt".
hey everyone i don't post here often but i have the same problem with a friends truck he has an 02 explorer 4.0 v6 xlt with towing package (3.55s in rear end)
his trans just crapped out last week and i just got done putting in a new trans. He's been having the same idle issues for the past 6 months. When cold its terrible. Im going to hook up my programmer to the ecu and see if i can try to isolate the problem. I can disable the egr and check the duty cycle of the IAC in realtime. I'll get to the bottom of it. I'll post back in a couple months once I get to the bottom of it and am 100% positive the problems been fixed.
If you have to have something "major" done to a 4.0L V6 SOHC, like have the timing chain, cam, lifter or fuel injector replaced, or low cylinder compression, how long does that take and how much does it cost?
I'm hoping that my idle issue is a small vaccum leak, a dirty throttle body, or an EGR, but I'm trying to prepare for the worst......
ok guys so i took my manifold intake apart this weekend to fix the idle issue, the only thing is this: i cant locate the O -ring seal that is suppose to be under the oil/ vaccum seperator under the intake manifold. i have looked and looked and i cant not find it. i have no no idea what it looks like i say that is SUPPOSE to be under the oil/seal vaccum separator under the intake manifold because thats what i previous user said it was located.
pleaseplease please help me find it so that i can replace it. thank you.
what does the oil/vaccum separator looks like?????where under the manifold intake is located?? i have a 2002 ford exlorer xls 4.0L sohc
Sorry I'm no help. I haven't torn mine apart yet. When we had my son's 4.0 intake seals replaced, they said nothing of this part. When the previous poster mentioned it, it was news to me.
Seems odd that we all seem to have the same issue at 130K. That's when my son had trouvle with his too.
i really need help guys, my cas been sitting in the garage since saturday. i still cant find the O-ring.
what does the oil/vaccum separator looks like?????where under the manifold intake is located?? i have a 2002 ford exlorer xls 4.0L sohc, some one please help me , i got my wife really upset about her Ford, please help.
so i have change the manifold intake gaskets, egr valve and gasket, egr vaccum selonoid and i still have the idle issue. it runs great while running but when i come to a stop the RPMS still go up and down and sometime it turns off. PLEASE HELP. the only way to smooth out the idle issue is to accelerate very hard while pressing the brake as well.
please some one help me.
i could not find the o-ring seal under the oil/vaccum separator as Al Martinez , i have no idea what it looks like, maybe my 02 explorer does not have one.
My RPMS go to about 500-600rpm and I get an intermittent miss, making the idle feel rough. Mine has never stalled or hesistated from a stop.
The good is that my CEL came on today! I'm taking it back to the shop for a scan. I still think mine is a small vacuum leak or maybe the EGR or 02 sensor.
I use my cruise all the time, and while coming down a hill, it coasted and resumed 2-3 times. It's never done that.
I also suspect my throttle body. I suggest having yours checked out. Sometimes it's better to have it outright replaced than "cleaned", as it is supposed to have some type of coating on it that you can accidentally clean off.
I had my EGR valve, a vapor management valve and the gas cap replaced. Seems to be doing better. We'll see. It still want to idle around 600rpm with the a/c, not sure what the idle is supposed to be.
I know that the last post was not directed at me, but I though my recent experiences could help someone...
no luck at all. still the same problem. no change replacing EGR,valve. still idles rough, rpm go up and down. the only way it would go away is to hit the accelerator hard and then it would settle.
