1356 transfercase rebuild manuals?
Try your local Ford garage, I recently got a breakdown of the parts from our local dealer and was able to rebuild mine. Also Inland Truck parts were a big help, not sure if there is one near you or not. If you have absolutely no luck at all, I could try faxing or e-mailing you a copy of mine, not sure how legible it will be though. These aren't too bad to work on, don't get intimidated. Good Luck.

Thanks, F-350 4x4! I've just E-mailed Inland Truck Parts, as you suggested. Perhaps they'll shine a little more light on the subject for me. Everyone tells me that they're easy to rebuild, so I'm sure I'll have no problem. I have rebuilt a few engines in my time, so this T-case should be a snap. I was just hoping to gain a few extra pointers from the experts. So far I've gained a lot of insight without placing a torx-50 on the first case bolt. Thanks again!:-X12

I have a ford manual I can copy and snail mail or maybe get it scanned at kinkos.
be sure to check the case where the "oil pump" tang rides against the case (you'll see when you open it up).
I would bet money it has a groove worn in it and the only thing that keeps the pump from spinning with the shaft is the oil pick up tube.
very common problem
I had to have mine welded -magnesium I think.

Excellent advice from efi460. That little tab makes a tremendous amount of difference in the life expectancy of a t-case. I believe the case is aluminum though, not positive. I have actually rebuilt several of these in the past. The first one did have a "future" problem with that little tab but we fixed it before it became real trouble. The latest rebuild had a gear-meshing problem internally and I was able to get parts (all I needed) from Inland and they were significantly more reasonable. About half price if I remember right. Any way, good luck.

Funny that you mention a beef up for the 1356 pump.I had the machine shop weld some steel stock aprox 1/8x1 1/4x1/2 in. to the end of the anti rotation tang (sort of a T shape). I smoothed it up a bit with my die grinder so it would fit in the case slot with just a slight clearance. My thinking was to spread the wear over a greater area. Cast aluminum (or mag) is no match for a sharp piece of vibrating stamped steel concentrated on a small area.
I don't have my truck running yet so I can't tell if my modification works.
If anyone knows of a proven mod please post.
