Transmission Help

Hey everyone

Can anyone help me with some tranmission information.

Is a powerglide 2 speed or a C6 3 speed, which is better for a street strip fun weekend vehicle?

Let me know any info you guys have....

Thanks

A power slide sucks up less power than a C6 but......it`s a gm transmission.....doesn`t belong in a Ford.....
A C4 might work while taking away less power.
Post where the expert`s are lurking, the FTE Clutch,Transmission, Differential, Axle and Transfer Case forum: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum69/ They discuss automatics there.
Too bad stuart1 hasn`t been by in this chapter for a while, he`s not far away in Moose Jaw and is an expert on automatics. I did a member search, he`s still on FTE so maybe drop him a pm if he doesn`t see this. His user name is ''stuart1''
How`s it coming along? Good luck and I`m looking forward to that next fast ride!
Morris.

id go with a c6 the power glide works extermely well for strip applications but there is a reason it was replaced by the th350 and the 700r4

c6's are still dogs that rob tons of power away. i know you didn't present it as an option but get a c4

I've got a fresh C4 behind my 393, but was under the impression that it wouldn't last long behind a big block with really decent power, but it could be cheaper

My bad I noticed that I didn't say this was for my new 557. ooooppppss

A C6 is the only option I know of for behind that mighty 557.
I`d still check with stuart1 if you can get an email reply from him, I know he`s been on FTE lately.

I would think a c4 would be pretty light for behind that huge powerplant.

Have you ever thought about checking into an aftermarket manual tranny? Would be expensive, but would be tough, and fun as hell.

Standards rob less power but an auto is way more consistent.

You can be consistant with a manual transmission, if you know how to shift. They are fairly good transmissions for street/strip applications too.

Nothing wrong with a god done up auto though. Just throwing out a different option (unfortunately an expensive one)

Any updates on your transmission yet Johnathan?
From what I`ve always read on serious hard core drag racing, where tiny fractions of a second mean the difference between winning and losing, an auto seems to be the most consistent.

Yeah I really think I am gonna go with the C6, now its a debate of using an old one and rebuilding it, or buying a built one that can handle 700-800hp. I am thinking in the long run buying a built one will be cheaper over all.
I have talked to Stuart and he isn't doing transmissions anymore, he did an amazing job on my C4 so its too bad that all his amazing knowlage and expereince isn't availavle anymore.
