I had a vss/psom code and an egr code on my 95 f150 5.8 4x4 w/e4od trans... two days ago I pulled the vac res. out and noticed it had a huge hole in the bottom so I made a new one out of some old pipe and some muffler cement and some silicone spray. I took the hose fittings off the old one and put them on the end of the pipe I used and it all seems to be working so far. I cleared the codes after I did this and then I drove it around for about an hour today and the cel never came on. Is it possible that the egr could have been causing the other code (vss/psom)? I doubt that it could but I figured I would ask. My other question is... I notice a whining/whistling noise when I'm driving but its only there when i'm stopped or slowing down with my foot off the accelerator. I had this issue once before and I was pretty sure it was a dirty throttle body, I cleaned it out about three weeks ago and it was good until today. Is there something else I could do to fix this. It seems to run ok but it sounds like the flap isn't closing enough and the air going by is making a noise like a hillbilly blowing across the mouth of a liquor jug... any input would be appreciated, thanks
The egr code probably was because of the vacuum canister being shot, but it doesnt have anything to do with the PSOM and VSS. Are you sure that wasnt a stored code that wasnt cleared?
i'm not sure it wasn't a stored code. I had some problems with it about a month ago in overdrive and that is when I checked the codes. I just figured it was related to the problem I was having. I haven't put it back on the freeway yet, there are a couple things I want to check first. I need to take out the vss and clean it and make sure none of the wiring is bad, and I want to change the fluid and filter in the trans as well before I do that also. I was pretty sure the two codes were unrelated. the truck has 226000 miles on it so I figured the vss/psom are about due for a good once over
