lol. i hear ya. they started working on it this afternoon. I called up there just before closing time and they said they haven't nailed it down yet but they were focusing on the FICM. I'm pretty sure this is covered under the warranty. If not my 3rd party extended warranty will. I'm still on the fence if they should charge the $100 deductible though. The wording in the warranty is contradicting as it says it's only free if your state does emmisions checks which mine does not.
From what I have seen, FICM failures usually come w/ a number of DTC's. Also, if it only happens when cold, it is surprising that it is a FICM issue. Keep us informed. Several years ago, my dealership agreed that even though we do not test emissions here, that the emissions warranty (and no deductible) still applied. Maybe w/ the economy issues they have changed their tune. Let us know how this turns out too.
They ended up replacing the FICM. The tech said they usually fail because of a voltage regulator or transformer (something along those lines) goes bad or pops. When it goes bad it doesn't send enough fuel to the injectors so thats why it was dying. Starts up perfect now! I didn't plug my SCT in to pull any codes, so I don't know if there were any. I figured my DashHawk would alert me if there were any since I have it set to alert me if there is 1 or more codes. There were however a long list of codes on the repair bill.
I paid the $100 deductible. I couldn't find anything that was solid in the warranty book about the emissions warranty being 100k miles or that the FICM was covered. I don't really have an issue since the repair bill would have been $1400!
Yea its not covered under the emissions warranty. Only the EGR system and such is.
Not surprising it was the FICM, has been happening a lot lately with a weak electrical system and the new flash. No one mentioned it right off the bat because it usually doesn't cause the symptoms you listed. It usually just won't start or dies.
Did they load test your batteries and alternator? If not it might be worth getting them tested so it doesn't happen again.
Good to hear your back on the road though. Thanks for keeping us updated.
My batts and alternator weren't load tested but I feel they are running ok. I have 14v when running down the road and the batts are fairly new. The alternator was just replaced under warranty. (It's a large case 200amp heavy duty from alternatorparts.com)
Here's a video of what it sounded and looked like. You can see the black smoke coming out in the lower mirror. I didn't catch any of the times it started and crapped out on me cuz I started to get P.O. at that point heh.
riggs,
if I am not mistaken, sometimes 1 or more injectors are likley to go south after or even during an FICM failure. But I guess that is also related to just how severe the problem was.

If the sticks crap out on me I'll have em replaced under warranty as well. Then I'll take em out and sell em for a better price than I would have gotten for my old ones and get some bigger ones.
