I just replaced mine with Monroe from a local parts store. When I took mine off and turned it upside down, the shaft fell to the end. No resistance at all. I think it was time to replace mine.
Stay away from Rough Country. I installed one last year and it's toast. Leaked the fluid all out of it. No dents, no punctures. Just an ornament under there now.

The one I have right now is a Rancho. It works, but it looks like total crap. The first winter destroyed the white/red paint and finish. Would I recommend it? Probably not. I won't get another one.
