Exhaust questions. I searched and did not find what I was looking for.
1. Has anybody run Bassani mufflers on their truck? They are supposed to be pretty awesome sounding and pretty good at svaneging.
2. I was thinking of running dual exhaust, putting the 2 mufflers side by side close to stock location, and running both pipes out before passenger tire. Similar to a lightning. The only problem I see will be that it will have to run under the frame to come out there. Leaning more torwards not doing that, just wondering if its been done.
the bassani mufflers work best with there entire exhaust system. how would they scavenge better if the rest of the setup isnt new or built around the muffler.
the duals idea has been done.
1.adds zero performance improvment over the exhaust system i have
2.cost twice as much because now your running 2 cats 2 mufflers and twice teh pipe.
4.having the tailpipes exit in front of rear tires will put them in harms way, in otherwords
CRUNCH!!!
I'll second everything Kem already said. I run the Bassani muffler but its in conjunction with the rest of their system. 3" stainless from the Y-pipe back which when you think about volume, is no different than two 1.5" pipes but without the headaches of trying to route two pipes and figuring out where to put a cross over pipe. And keep in mind that it is possible to reduce back pressure to a point where you will actually lose performance. Exit location for Bronco exhaust is limited to begin with because you can't go out the rear and in front of the rear wheels is ok but awfully close to the doors especially if you ever have kids getting in and out.
Thanks guys,
I figured out in front of the rear tires was not too good. I'm just looking now and doing planning. When I do the permanent exhaust, I want to know what first all the deteails. How does the Bassani muffler sound? I've never seen or heard one. Everyone around here has flowmasters or straight pipes. I want to have a different sound. Also, I'm planning on doing duals. Mostly for looks. But I also plan on building the engine later and using the same exhaust. I did do research though, and a 3.5 inch pipe flows like a few thousanths less than 2, 2.5 pipes.
true duals like on a stang that runs hi rpms and builds its power hi in the rpm range need the free flowing nature of duals. the routing is also more strait on a stang. on a bronco all the bends will not give the same results. dont build it like a car build it like a truck. you could go single all the way to the muffler then go dual out to get that look if need be. duals before the muffler is pointless and more expensive
The bassainis sound awsome I had them on an old cam.... i know a chevy but still they have a very sharp distinctive sound. one on a single 3" exaust would sound great IMO.
Bassani has a fabulous sound... low and strong but never raspy... none of that obnoxious pressure popping when you let off after romping on it either. (what I call the "flush" sound from "flushmaster" exhaust components). I have always liked the fact that if I want to I can MAKE it rumble enough to set off car alarms but I don't HAVE to deal with that all the time.
I have heard good things about their products as well. I'm going on 7 years with the same Bassani stainless system so I have not had to deal with any exhaust system components since I first installed it on Greystreak.
Note: The high flow cat in the Y-pipe did fail after the fire in Greystreak so I had to gut the substrate before installing it in the "new" Bronco. But Missouri no longer requires a functional cat on anything older than 1996 so I figure I got my money's worth considering the substrate didn't fail until the truck burned it out of the pipe!
the hooker aerochamber doesnt drone in the cab which is why i chose that muffler. just got back from a 2.5hr trip pulling the rv with OD off and rpms sitting about 2800rpms and i could listen to the radio easily.
