I recently purchased a 1990 full-size Bronco knowing that it it had a transmission problem. Previous owner thought it might be the seals that were leaking but I discovered it was the cooling line that was rubbing on the bell housing which was causing it to literally spray fluid everywhere. After I spliced the tubing I proceeded to replace the filter kit. The valve body was still in presteen condition(considering I only drained about 2qts of fluid out of it). Anyway, it runs fine in drive around town since its only really needs three gears, BUT when I'm on the highway anywhere between 40-50 mph overdrive wont engage. The engine will just RPM to about 3500 unless I ease off the accerlator and let it drop down to about 25-30 and put it into D. Anyone have any Ideas about why this is happening. I would like to explore any options I could remedy myself before dropping a nice chunck of change having it rebuilt. It is an AOD transmission. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on my situation. Thanx
the AOD doesnt have a vacum line going to it that would be a C6.
are you sure you have the AOD. is there a button on the dash or end of shift lever to turn OD off/on?
if you do infact have an AOD and OD isnt working your OD servo band sounds shot which require some work to replace. the AOD isnt to spendy to have rebuilt and a really good stout rebuild is around 1300, a stock rebuild should be 800-1000 depending on the parts you choose. either way just make sure the TV cable is adjusted properly, if not the tranny will burn up quick.
consider yourself lucky the E4OD is $1800-2800 for a rebuild.
