Hey guys, I got my new lighted and heated mirrors over the weekend. There are 4 more wires then my wire harness has, guessing running lights, turn siganl, heat and ground. does anyone remember ready which wires do what so I wouldnt have to go through the trouble of texting them all.
The link ron posted doesnt really say where to tap into for the turn signals and running lights. on the passanger side id really hate to have to run a wire all the way over the the light switch for runnings lights and im not sure where to tap into the turn signal wires with running up to the headlight...there isnt a wire over there under the carpet that runs to the rear turn signal?
So you have to run both the turn signal wires and the running light wires to the steering column? even from the passanger side?
And I noticed the first link said to hook heat to the power wire to the window switches...anyone have any idea which one this is? I have no test light, plus motors out so the batteries and wires are scattered everywhere!
It is more trouble, but I ran my mirror heat through a timer that shuts off after 5 minutes. I also used a realy and switch so I can run them all the time and they shut off when the key is off. When you turn the key back on, you have to start the mirrors again. I did that so I wouldn't forget and leave them on all the time.
It says there is a power wire under then dash, therefore there should be a power wire inside each door, correct? Is it the same color as what is mentioned under the dash?
use a test light on the back of the switch to find your power..doing it this way your heaters will be on when ever the key is on..if you turn your key backwards to listen to tunes..your heaters will be heating...i ran a wire from the power acc. fuse (power with key on only) in the fuse pannel to a toggle switch...then through the boot into the door..this lets me turn them on when i need them and if i forget to turn it off..they will turn off when the key is turned off..i used a lighted toggle switch to remind me its on...

Kenny as you stated already you can't use a light probe without batteries.
Here's the link I used to wire in mine last weekend.
YES, you do have to run wires all the way from the passenger side. I just made 2 wiring harnesses wrapped in wire loom. In this writeup, he tells you what 2 wires to look for under the steering column for the turn signals. Mine were the same color as he described. The wiring harness comes from the upper drivers side of the steering column. I had to cut the tape and pull the loom back to get to the wires. For the park lights splice the 2 wires (one from each mirror) into one connector and then tap into the brown parklight wire behind the headlight switch.
As for the heat, you can do what Ron described. Either wire them in to the constant key-on power just like ford did OEM or use a toggle in-line to manually activate it. Since my 2002 has the same fuse/distribution box for the SD and Excursions, I'm going to use the rear window defrost relay/fuse/timed switch from the Ex. That way they are only on when I want them on. I just need to get some new pin connectors rounded up to finish wiring in the heat!
