Alright thanks, Since I dont have a test light or batteries I am going to take a wild guess on the heat and see what happens, I see no problem with wiring it so it is on whenever the key is on, If ford did it i dont think itll harm anything.
YES, you do have to run wires all the way from the passenger side. I just made 2 wiring harnesses wrapped in wire loom. In this writeup, he tells you what 2 wires to look for under the steering column for the turn signals. Mine were the same color as he described. The wiring harness comes from the upper drivers side of the steering column. I had to cut the tape and pull the loom back to get to the wires. For the park lights splice the 2 wires (one from each mirror) into one connector and then tap into the brown parklight wire behind the headlight switch.
As for the heat, you can do what Ron described. Either wire them in to the constant key-on power just like ford did OEM or use a toggle in-line to manually activate it. Since my 2002 has the same fuse/distribution box for the SD and Excursions, I'm going to use the rear window defrost relay/fuse/timed switch from the Ex. That way they are only on when I want them on. I just need to get some new pin connectors rounded up to finish wiring in the heat!
why on a timer??? if you dont camp or party and use your trucks tunes to listen to..then it wont be a bother..if you do.. then the heaters will kill the batts faster...

Well, I do use the truck to listen to tunes from time to time. But the actual reason for not going with the hot all the time the key is on is because I really like how my heated seats have a timer and automatically shut off after a certain time. And realistically I'd be using the heated mirror function from time to time. No sense in having something draw power when it's 100 degrees outside in the summer!
And I really like keeping things looking as stock as can be when it comes to the dash. No random toggle switches for me! I recently changed out the bezel for one from an Excursion so that I could use the factory rear window defroster switch. Not only does that bezel give the truck a custom but factory look but the switch will be functional too. That way if someone was to get into the pickup, they'd think that Ford made the heated mirrors that way.
ok that makes sence...its so damn cold up here in the 6 months of winter that i cant deal with a timer..i want them on at all times when im driving untill i shut the truck off...or deside they dont need to be on....other wise if they shut off when timed out..then when i need it there froze up or all fogged up......i drive tractor trailer for a living..seeing a few toggle switches makes me feel right at home..the big truck has heated mirrors as well...them mirrors are allways on till i shut them off or the truck off as well...them damn timed rear defrost always gets me..i always drive with my mirrors..i dont have a back window more then i do have one....when i need to look out the back window..the defrost has timed out and i now have snow covering the back window..takes for ever for it to re heat and melt it back off...
