i just finished up wiring up trailer and i have this break away switch....ok in the 7 blade plug...the black wire which is hot,fused,30 amp goes to the battery on the trailer, then to the breakaway switch, then taps into the brakes wire ....do i have this wiring right??....i am guessing but i think i have this right...
That sounds correct. The 12v feed from the truck charges the battery. If (god forbid) the trailer breaks free from the towing vehicle, the breakaway switch is pulled, putting 12v from the battery onto the brakes, locking them up completely. Then your trailer is simply a large object hurtling down the highway uncontrolled, rather than a large object rolling down the highway uncontrolled on wheels.
