Hi All,
I have a 91' Explorer, and am experiencing a slip between 1st and 2nd.
It started when I replaced the vacuum modulator several years ago. I guess my question is, how many pins are there supposed to be. Just one, larger pin? Or does a smaller slide into the modulator, and fit into the larger pin that slides into the transmisson?
There is only one pin. This is inconvenient to work on. The aluminum piston valve in the transmission body can get stuck from dirt. When you replaced the modulator was there oil in the vacuum side? Did the replacement solve any problem? The reason I ask is that your problem could be a sticking speed governor in the extension housing or a couple of other things. Do you have a delayed reverse engagement too?
Well, my friend seems to have solved the problem! There was no pin that went into the modulator, there was only the aluminum piston valve, which I was mistaking for "the pin". When the modulator was replaced several years ago, due to tranny fluid being sucked up and into the intake, the pin that goes into the modulator obviously became lost. The guy that originaly replaced the modulator must not have noticed the pin missing, and I surely had no idea what was looking for. It seems to be shifing fine now.
