Rebuilding a 77 stepside. PO said it wouldn't shift into 2nd, only 1st and hard into 3rd. Truck sat in a field for 8 years so I figured I'd rebuild the tranny for the experience and to try and locate the problem.
Got the kit from Oregon Performance Transmission and the Haynes book. Pull it apart and all appears to be just fine -- except there is no vacuum modulator pin. Got the modulator, got the valve body, DON'T have a pin.
A) is that why it didn't shift into 2nd?
B) where do I buy a vacuum modulator pin for a C4?
I am searching the web, but I'd like confirmation from you guys. Thanks.
I made one for my C6 out of a small nail. You will have to find out from google how long it should be and then take a small nail and cut it to length and round the ends. I read on here that others have used welding rods for the same purpose.
C4 installed in 1973/79 Passenger Cars, F100/150's, 1973/77 Bronco's and 1970/74 Econolines: There are five different rods (pins), as they are a selective fit.
1973/79 Ford Car & Truck Parts Catalogs do not list the lengths or diameters.
