Steering Box 2000 Excursion
Hi all, Where can I find a list of vehicles that use the same steering box as my 2000 Excursion? Do all the Excursions use the same box and how about the 250's and 350's? Many thanks for any information...
My Ex is oversteering at hwy speeds and the tires aren't too bad. How much adjustment is there on the box? I have 140.000, v10 4x4 and just had wheel alignment where I replaced the long tie rod end (passenger side) and the tie rod that goes to the pitman arm.

Just complete the box adjustment and have a quick question. How do you know if you have over tightened it. I found the adjust screw quite tight in the nut and due to being bit difficult to get too I wasn't going to run the nut out so I just added a 1/4 turn till I felt improvement. Is there a mechanical breakdown diagram anywhere on the net so can see what were doing? Many thanks...

Successfully made adjustments to my steering box. My tools were 1/2" ratchet and a 5/8" spark plug socket. Ring wrench 5/8" and a 3/16" long allen key. Small set of step ladders and I was set. I stood on the ladders putting my arm down behind the radiator I loosened the 5/8" nut on the box with the spark plug socket for best leverage. Using the ring wrench over the nut and using the allen key, rocked the allen key and nut together screwing in the allen key approx 1/4 turn (I actually I screwed it in 1 turn to start) then re-tighten the nut with ring wrench, started the engine and checked the the steering wheel by just rocking the steering wheel feeling for any tightness. If it was still free I continued tightening 1/4 turn at a time till I got to a point where I could tell by the steering wheel when it started binding and I backed off the allen key. Driving is the best test for freeness/tightness. When finished tighten the 5/8" nut with the spark plug wrench for best leverage. Each adjustment can be done on the side of the road in a few minutes (sounds like my chiropractor but doesn't cost $35 each time) takes longer to set up the steps. My X now steers perfectly. (for a 2000 with 140k) Hope this helps anyone who whats to attempt this with their mechanic.
