Fuel Cap door removal

My F350 had a chrome fuel door with lock installed when I bought it. The chrome all peeled and I am trying to remove it for replacement. It seems to be an aftermarket door and I cannot see how it goes on or comes off?? It has about 8 allen screws oround the outside but they only appear to just be mounted to the ring for looks. They have a nut on te backside which seems very hard to get at and really does not look like ti goes through the truck body making them useless. Then there is two screws on the left which appear to have held the original door on the truck. But they too appear to be just sitting there and not holding anything?? Is anyone here able to tell me how these stupid doors go on and come back off? Are they glued on???

If it's a locking fuel door like my AMI, two of the allen screws closest to the locking device (one to the right and slightly above the lock and one to the right and slightly below the lock) attach the door to a mounting bracket that is in between the door and body of the truck. Remove these two allen screws and you'll have the right mount loose. With the door open, look to the left and you'll see two studs protruding into the fuel door cavity. These studs are welded to the fuel door mount ring and pass through the original door mount holes in the truck wall. There will be a nut on each of these studs. You need to remove these nuts using a small 1/4 inch drive socket and a universal socket joint. It's very hard to get to these nuts but a little patience will get you there. Once you get these nuts off, you'll have the left mount loose. I'd start with the stud nuts first and then finish with the right allen screws. Once you get the stud nuts off, you can hold onto the open fuel door to keep it in place while you take out the allen screws and keep from scratching up the side of your truck.

Ya, I will try that. I do see two screws (sheet metal) which seem to go thru the holes on the hinge side where the original door was screwed to. But I cannot access the heads of these screws? They have a hex head, but ut us situated between the back of the door outer plate and the sheetmetal of the truck. I can't see if they are holding an interim bracket of sorts. I may be able to get an ignition wrench 1/4" in between and back then out and maybe the whole assembly will come out with them??? This is a real mickey mouse affair. I have looked at others and I guess there are many versions of these out there. I have no idea where this crap came from. Chrome has all peeled off and looks horrible. AMI sent me drawings of theirs, and it does look different, so I don't think it is theirs???
