I have a 94 f-150 4x4 with a 300 six and a mazda 5 speed. I came to a stop light the other day, and went to take off in second gear as usual. The driveline was completely seized. I put the truck in neutral, and heard a loud pop, the the truck took off. It shifted just fine. A few minutes later, It did it again, but this time when i put the truck in neutral, it took off in second gear. I am stumped as to what this could be, as I have never torn into a transmission. I go to college for Diesel/Ag, so I have some mechanical ability, but I was wondering if anyone could put me in the right direction.
Thanks in Advance,
Sean
The truck has 33" tires on it and 4.56 gears, so first seems kinda pointless to me, as i shift at 5 MPH. I had the top cover off, and everything seems to be in place. I do know that my brother borrowed the truck, and when i got it back, i added over a quart of fluid to it, but I have no idea what the capacity is, so I don't know how low it was.
If the shifter is in the right place, and not worn or missing pieces, the next to check is the actual shift forks riding down on the shafts. Some pics here a while back of some worn half away.
TC and ujoints check ok? Diff still turn smooth? From that 2nd gear instead of N comment, it probably is something fishy with the trans.
2nd gear starts with that trans? OK. Check your shift forks. I think you can pull the top cover off that trans w/o removing it--
Good advice. If you go to motivegear.com (originally posted by 85e) and click on "transmission" and then download their parts catalog you will get an exploded view of your trans with shifter. Have a look at all the little bushings and compare with what you have. There may be something worn that you are missing.
I got torn into it more, didnt know I had a cover to take the top off so i dropped the whole entire tranny, what a PITA. Shift forks were worn, so I had new ones installed by the school I go to, now I put everything back in, and its stuck in gear again. About to FLIP the truck over
How is my slave set up going to be with the NP435 or ZF5 as the M5R2 is internal.. I have looked into ZF5, they are expensive, I would go that route if you guys have any good priced hook ups near ohio
