OK, so my understanding of the BII electric t-case is that if I take the motor off, I would have a shaft I could turn to put it into 4 hi or low and back to 2 hi.
If this is the case, has anyone made a solid choke pull type shaft connected to the t-case via a lever to manually turn the shaft?
It'd be kind of like the pto pull lever on the Kenworth I used to drive..
Not sure if you'd have enough exposed shaft to be able to manipulate it. Might want to consider swapping a manual case in or fabricating a shifter or taking the shifter off a manual t-case first.
After you take the motor off, the shaft sticks out 3/4 of an in or so. You can turn it with pliers but it needs to turn something like 350* to get from 2WD to 4LO. I haven't heard of anybody that has been able to make a shifter that will work.
There have been a few (including me) that have drilled a hole in the cover of the motor and welded a threaded stud to the motor shaft. Then they connect a "Brake Bias" adjuster to that. That enables them to turn a **** to manually turn the electric motor. It works but you have to turn the **** a cagillion times to get it from 2WD to 4lo.
Also the front part of an auto shift t-case is different than a standard shift. So you can't just put a manual shifter on it.
I'd consider a manual t-case if I find one cheap enough. I think I spotted a dead ranger that I'll try to pick up. The key is, talk to the wife first. Then they have the "pull" to help you get the rig cheap
I'll have to take the motor off my auto case to see what can be fabbed up. I'll get to that after I get the dash and seats put back it the thing. It sure would be easier if I would have been the one to take all this stuff apart.
True, you did score really well with the price, I won't argue that! I just know that the auto-shift t-cases can be a pain in the rear if the module or motor start acting up. Any luck on finding the actual replacement parts? Might be able to search on car-part.com or eBay.
