if the TC is un locked the brake wont hold the truck back..only way around that is to do the TC lock mod..i had a little box from SP diesel that locked and unlocked my TC what ever speed i wanted from 22 MPH and up..it would then let me turn on my exhaust brake.. every thime i let off the go peddle the brake would come on..
I use my EBPV as a brake. It held back alot better when I still had the stock exhaust but now with the 4" it doesnt hold back as well. It does still help though. I have a 6 speed so the TC lock up was not an issue.
Look on ebay or on your browser for SP Deisel, The one I have is a three way switch. One way is off, one was is the ebfv on (closing when you take your foot off the accelerator) and the third way is a TC lock up and the ebfv on. The only problem for regular driving is that the TC unlocks at around 35 MPH unless you lock and unlock in with the switch. If you leave it locked down to a stop the truck will stall, just like if you forgot to put in the clutch on a stick. The price was very reasonable and the install took a couple hours. I only use mine to come down steep downgrades when I'm towing. It's very useful for that but I keep thinking I'm putting too much stress on that valve. No problems though. I think some of the later models may be more complex and have better features so don't go entirely by this, visit SP. Hope this helps.
I recently installed a DP with the decel tune. I am happy it really holds you back on the hills, really noticed when towing.
Glad to hear that. I to have the decel tune, but haven't had the chance to tow with it yet. I do like the response it gives. Although not as aggressive as a jake brake, it definately helps.
