its a reman alternator and had it tested before i put it on in autozone and it passed on there bench tester and i did this test after i had the truck running for about 5 minutes elevating the idle it stays the same...what else in this system could it be??? this sux
i think i found what it was the loom of wires that run down to the starter were what looked to be rubbed through on the metal battery tray and shorting out, and i moved it and my volts shot up to 14.3 i'm guessing that was my problem...would that cause the alternator to not put out though??
If you have a bare wire touching metal, that would be a dead short and a very high draw, however,if thats the case, you're lucky you didn't have a complete meltdown/battery explosion.
I'm assuming a cable, otherwise it would have been fuse protected.
If you isolate the wire, and it's now charging, you're good to go.
repair / replace .
yea i wire tied it up out of the way idk why that happened i'm guessing over time it just kept rubbing the metal withe the motor vibration and wore a small bare spot

I would buy some split loom or heater hose that is big enough to run the battery cable through to protect it, then wire it up away from the batt tray. You got lucky that you didn't have more problems, like a burned up truck!
yea tell me about it, i mean i'm guessing thats what it was i moved the wires away from the battery tray and my volts shot up to 14.3 soo that be my guess...
i could take a pic but i suck at uploading figuring out how would take forever, i'll try to explain, ok on the passenger battery,, if you follow the positive wire it will drop down over the rear corner of the battery if you follow it down you will see the corner of the battery tray, thats right where mine was rubbing...

You seem to have found the problem, but I would check the wire a bit closer to see if it was rubbed or burned to where you may have a open circuit,by moving the wire you may have caused a temporary reconnection
