Not a bad idea. There have been at least a few Powerstrokes burn to the ground (or nearly so) because of shorts in the battery cables. Even if you end up having to buy a new pos. cable, it will be way cheaper than a new truck!

Was it covered by that split-plastic wire loom that Ford covers everything with?

Did it also rub through that?
