[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Jan-03 AT 09:49 PM (EST)]I have an 86 Ford F250 XLT 4x4, 385HP 351W (Ford Racing). It currently has a C6 in it. I had contemplated switching to AOD, but have decided to stick with a Rebuilt Bulletproof C6. Next year I will buy a Gear Vendors Underdrive/Overdrive unit and convert the C6 to a 6 speed overdrive system.
I have found a few companies that sell Bulletproof Transmissions and would like to see if anyone has any opinions of these companies or if anyone has had good experiences with other companies. Budget is important, so opinions on that also would help.
The companies are:
Level Ten - I have heard good things, but they are expensive and have no warranty. C6 up to 800HP for about $1500 without performance torq converter. No warranty that I can find on their web site.
www.netgearhead.com - I know someone that bought a tranny from them and had a good experience. They seem about mid priced. C6 up to 400HP for about $1200 without performance torq converter. 1 Year warranty
TCI - Don't know anything about this one, but their prices are pretty good. I know that Summit Racing and JEG'S sell these. C6 up to 450HP for about $769 without performance torq converter. 90 Day warranty.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-11-03 AT 08:48 PM (EST)]I have a TCI c6 in my 78 with a 3000 stall.I bought it about 7 or 8 years ago.Not been a bad trans, but I have rebuilt it 3 or 4 times. Not its fault thou as I'm notoriously hard on transmissions.Snaped the input shaft once "looked like it had been cut",welded the clutches together another time, and broke the output shaft, which in turn busted the tail shaft housing throwing trans.fluid on my headers causing alot of smoke, the drive shaft hit the ground turned my truck side ways "not fun 100+mph" 3rd gear wide open.Don't know how I saved it but I did.Right after that I put a drive shaft loop on her. Still I'd say it is a good transmission ,I known others that have not had any problems with them. So don't let my record make you think bad of a TCI. trans.Oh yes I was racing a BRAND X "camaro" when the tail shaft broke, was I winning??? Lets just say he had to replace his windshield after pieces of tail shaft housing went through it.
Johnny
p.s. luckly he was not hurt
