Hey guys, I've seen some GOOD stuff on the BG carbs. Ordinarily, I HATE Holly carbs, and I know the BG is not exactly a Holly, but a Holly with the problems fixed. My question is are they a "plug and play" carb, or do you have to mess with them by tuning like you do on typical Holly's? I've got most of the stuff to go TBI on my truck, BUT after what I've seen out of my brother's car after the TBI, it really wasnt worth the effort and extra wiring and money. Currently I'm runnin an Edelbrock Performer carb 600CFM manual choke, and after last year's re-jetting, it does run a little better and gets a little better fuel mileage.
Anybody using one of these carbs? It's a model 910-12085 525CFM manual choke. I'm not much on electric chokes so I want a manual. It sells for $275 from Speedway motors.
I've had some experience with demon carbs. I am going to stick with Holley. Electric choke is the only way that I would go. I've got a couple friends that are completely satisfied with their Edelbrock carbs.
Ditto the Edelbrock recommendation. My son had a BG carb and it was worse than any Holley, and parts ARE NOT all interchangeable (incl. jets). Slapped on a Holley 650 and problems immediately disappeared. But Edelbrock is the way to go for the street IMO. Had one on a 460 for 5 yrs and never touched it.
Actually I've always been happy with my Edelbrock and never really had problems, but was considering the TBI stuff, but while I was waiting for my dad today in the hospital, I looked at a Speedway catalog and saw these carbs. As I said, I've had nothing but problems with Holly carbs in the past, and dont have a good opinion of them, but these look like they may be alot different? I really just need to put in a new needle and seat in my Edelbrock, cause it sits more than it's driven. The float sticks and I have to tap the carb to get the thing to free up so it will fill up with gas.
If it were not for that, I would not think of changing. At least, I think it needs a needle and seat to be fixed. After I tap on the side and it starts it runs fine for the next few times I start it.
We just got in a BG six shooter setup for a SBF, which we are waiting adapters to put it on the 351W that we putting on the 40 that we are building. I have sat down and read the instructions and it seems very simple without all the aggravation of the setting up the carbs the whole is pretty sweet. I will try to get some pics up and some info after we get her fired up.
befor you "plug and play" take the carb apart and blow out the metal shavings!!!....everyone myself or friends of mine have had, they all have shavings in them... other than that i love it!!! great respons, easy to tune and good tech support!
