i just purchased a 1981 F100 Ranger, i'm trying to figure out the door tag.

trans: K = c-6?
axle: 01 = ?

i'm pretty sure its c6 trans, but i cant seem to find the axle info.
I know that its a drum brake 9", but what gears, spline count, etc?

motor is a 300 I-6.

There is a door tag decoder under articles/specs at the top of every page.

Look under the truck and see if you can find the axle tag there should be one on the front passenger side of the pumpkin. Just post the code on here if you need it decoded.

EDIT: i just found it was looking in the wrong spot on the tag WDM-CL: 31 spline, 2.75:1

Axle Code 01= Ford 9" Rear end, Non Limited Slip, Capacity 2800, Ratio 2.75:1

 

its deffinately going to have to change...i'm thinking 3.25 or 3.50 track lok

Check for the build sheet under the seat or send away for the build sheet from ford.

 

01 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 2.75-1 / No Limited Slip / 2,800 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

Edit: (sigh) Geez Louise, I just looked at the date in this thread. It was last typed 4/7/2009 until the in post #11 dug it up.
