axle question
I have 84' f250. Im not sure what axle is in the back. i thought it was a dana 60 but the differential cover dont look right for a 60 and the tag is too rusted to read even after i cleaned it with a wire brush. if anyone has information about this year of truck it will be appreciated.

It's either a D60 or someone swapped a Sterling 10.25 in it.
Here is a good reference:

DANA 44
All domestic manufacturers have used Dana axles, and the 44, with its 8 1/2-inch ring gear, is likely to be a step up on anything smaller than a 1/2-ton. A narrowed 44 could be the hot ticket for vehicles smaller than a full-size sport-utility. It was standard under the front of pre-1976 Chevy Blazers and 1/2-tons, solid front-axled F-150s and Broncos, and Jeep J-10/J-20s and Grand Wagoneers.

DANA 60
A Dana 60 looks deceptively similar to a Dana 44, but the 60's 9 3/4-inch ring gear diameter is a major factor in strength. It can be found in many 3/4-ton pickup and van rear ends.
I cut and pasted from stosh's link. Nice link stosh btw, saved to favorites

I also have a question I had to change the seal behind the yoke on my 81 ford f-150. I figuered I would change the axle grease while i did the seal, So I looked at the cover on the back of the axle torwed the tail gate and it looked like it didnt come off. I tried to take the front off but couldnt get it off because the ring gear kept it from coming off. my question is how the hell do I get that front section off to change the grease in the rear end? I got the grease change with lot of rages it was messy but got the job done. I am going to do the front axle which side comes off to change the grease?

From your post I am assuming you have a 4wd, since you want to take the front apart, and that will be the dana 44 ttb. If it doesn't have a drain plug, you will have to suck it out. If you want to take it apart, you will again have to pull both axles and then it will come out toward the rear of the truck.
