broken bell housing
I have a 97 F450 SD with the powerstroke diesel and 5 speed tranny. The clutch wouldn't disengage so when I checked it out I found that the bell housing had broke completely from the rest of the trans!:-staun Has anyone else had this happen and what could have caused this??

I have seen it happen before. Usually the Dual mass flywheel goes bad.(You should be able to feel a vibration in the truck when this happens). The vibration literally shakes the tranny so bad that it busts the case. We have three trucks at work that have done this. I usually replace the dual mass flywheel with a solid one, but if you do you will need a different clutch. I have also gotten really quick at rebuilding ZF 5 speeds
