I do what I have time for. I also leave more primer at the end than paint. Right now, the back end of my next truck is the only part painted. I left about 2" of primer forward of the paint. This way the wire wheel won't take a spot without primer. It just gives some room for error.

What are you going to use-POR or paint?

If i were to do mine agian i would have wheeled all of the loose stuff off with a brush on a grinder then sanded it lightly with some 180 grid or similair. I used some Rust-Mort from PPG. This is the best way to neutralize the rust and after spray it with a DTM (direct to metal) primer or self etching primer with an single stage epoxy paint. This truly is the right way to do it because it will neutralize the rust, the primer will seal the rust so it will not pick up agian and the epoxy will keep the water from getting underneth. POR15 is great for some applications but not all. I have found that POR15 allows the mousture to get underneath it and the rust starts to grow even more.

I am still thinking on what I am going to use but the frame is coming good.
All I am using is a flop disk 60grit and it takes it right down to bare metal.
And is fast just about got the out side rails and under the frame done on the one side next is the other side and then start in side of the frame.
I am going to take that cross member out today or tomorrow.
Will have progress pictures tonight.
Cheers

<a href="http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww148/ChrisCrash12/?action=view&current=framegrinding3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww148/ChrisCrash12/framegrinding3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww148/ChrisCrash12/?action=view&current=FrameGrinding4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww148/ChrisCrash12/FrameGrinding4.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww148/ChrisCrash12/?action=view&current=FrameGrinding5.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww148/ChrisCrash12/FrameGrinding5.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww148/ChrisCrash12/?action=view&current=FrameGrinding6.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww148/ChrisCrash12/FrameGrinding6.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Now should I run out and get some primer to cover the area I got done? Or will it be okay for another day or so till I finish up..
Cheers

It will be fine for at least a day. Unless its real humid where you are. Looks good so far.

Its comes and goes, its spring time right. But its really hot and sunny right now. Worse case I will just go over it quick till I get atleast some primer on it.
Now its at this point should I get a wire twisted cup and go over that?
Or just leave it where its at with the flop disk?
Cheers

Hey guys,
just wondering will it be okay to wash the frame with my pressure washer to get all the dust/dirt crap off the frame before paint? I was thinking of blasting it in the am, letting it dry all day then a very light sand and then paint end of the afternoon?
What do you use to wipe the frame off? Before the paint to make sure its clean?
Cheers

The frame is looking pretty good. As far as cleaning, a pressure wash BEFORE you sand/wheel would help keep it a little less dusty.
Prior to painting, I break out a bucket with a liberal dose of dish soap and water and go to town with a scrub brush and a toothbrush. I really apply the elbow grease and make sure to get all the little nooks and crannies. Then primer once it is dry.

That is not the finish coat, but its tremclad rust reformer. I was trying to get a fast coast on because it was susposed to rain last night but.... NO RAIN lol.
I am going to do small touch ups today that I could not get with the grinder I bought a small dremal to get those.

Its looks good I think.
I am going to over coat it with a semi gloss black.

Just one more question..
When can I wash my frame? couple days or when after the paint has been put on.
Also My dumb *** forgot to take out that crossmember on that so the rivets are still.
I am going to try to get it out from the inside but may have to do it from the frame.
So will the patch match up? Even with the finish coat I am going to put semi gloss on so it should even up later right?
And what is the best way to get these damn rivets out?
Cheers
