msd coil

im thinkin about puttin an msd coil on my 92 f150 4.9l. its easy to install, cheap, and i want to smooth my idle and gain a little power. any comments on this idea? anybody have some experience with msd coils? heres a site and the cheapest one is 32 bucks, but im not sure why its cheaper the one thats 48 bucks.

I have the MSD TFI Blaster coil. It has a higher voltage allowing you to gap your plugs wider. That gives a larger spark the (042 v 055) for the fuel burn to start along, giving slightly more power. I thought I could notice the difference. MSD recommends a colder spark plug if this coil causes pinging (it did for me).

I don't know if I would buy it again. I got a bigger bump from the 6a box in mileage and performance.

It provides several higher voltage sparks for each compression cycle. My mileage improved by over 1 mpg! There is a little more power too. It is the next best thing after tune up with good wires, cap and plugs.

If you get one the $20 TFI adapter cable hook up will be easier. With this too you might need a colder plug. This allows you to increase the plug gap by .013 or more which is the same as the blaster coil alone. You don't need the 6al model your pcm box already has the "L" feature built in.

ive got the coil on my truck and i like it.i have a 95 f150 with the 4.9.. it hasnt let me down yet. a word of advice on the 6a box tho... i know a bunch of people who said that they are more trouble than they are worth, and down the road can cause headaches with your ignition system. then again, thats just what i have heard(many times over). i would reccomend the msd coil, and some high quality plug wires. i put Taylor streetfire wires on my truck, and they are awesome.

I'd stay clear of the MSD street fire coil. Not even manufactured in America like most MSD parts. I haven't had any experience with it but was told by a few reputable sources that they are junk or no better than stock. I have an accel hi output coil and it works great, but for you to get maximum benefits from the coil you should have wires that are in good shape and a nice clean brass cap and rotor.
