My radiator core support on my 1974 F100 4x4 is rusted out. I have another 1974 F100 that I was hoping to use the core support from, but that too is rusted out. So I called the local salvage yard and they have (2) core supports both from a 1979 F150s.
Just wondering if these will work for me. I want to keep all the other parts for the front end, round lights, grill shell, etc. Is it just a case of bolting the new one up and swapping parts, or will I need to drill holes for the headlight buckets and grill shell?
You will have to make some modifications for the headlight buckets, and there are some differences, so if you want to be really very correct, then the 78/9 core support may not be for you.
Unfortunately the biggest differences are in the radiator mounting brackets. They bolt up far differently than the early radiator does, so you may have to change radiators, or at least have the mounting brackets changed form one radiator to the other so it can bolt up to the later core support.
Too bad you are so far away, I have a 75 core support just collecting dust. So Ca is a little to far to ship such a large item. Good luck in your search of the later model unit is more work than you are willing to spend.
