ok I just noticed some bubbling in a few spots on my hood, it is where the grill meets the hood, Has anyone had a issue with this? Does anyone know if this would be covered under Warranty? Hope someone can help me out, Thanks.
x2 on the hood being aluminum. Not sure how the bubbles could be caused by rust, I noticed rust bubbles on my right rear wheel well in the vicinity of where a "buthyl pad" was replaced that could cause that. Took it in because i knew that there was the 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty against corrosion. They told me that it wouldn't be covered because the bubbles that i saw were not caused by rust, but "at the factory someone hit it with an aluminum hammer and a small fleck of the hammer got stuck to the steel and after it got painted it takes 4 years for the dis similar metals to react to each other". Thats what the service manager told me. If i wanted it fixed i would have to pay my self. I ended up fixing it myself and it looks flawless. Unless your dealer really likes you, be prepared for somthing like this.
Are you sure the bubble isn't a paint blemish? Your hood is made of aluminum, although aluminum can corrode. I've been an automotive painter for more than 22 years, and I've yet to see any corrosion or perferation on any later model F-150 hood to date.

If my dealer tried to run a load of BS like that past me it would be on like Donkey Kong. I would go back in there with a camcorder and asked them to document that response. "And while you're writing out that reason please make sure to write down the name and number of the regional Ford customer service rep, I'd like to get the official word form Ford on your metalurgic evaluation and rational."
Ford knows its a problem. It is iron contamination under the paint. The dissimilar metals corrode the aluminum. The paint will not stick to the corrosion and flakes off. Our 2004 Explorer has it really bad on the leading edge of the hood. The corrosion warranty only goes into effect if the sheetmetal is perforated by rust/corrosion. The dealership that I talked to said that they have alot of complaints about corrosion on the hood, but will not honor it unless the vehicle is under the factory warranty.
Im glad you posted that tsb! I forgot all about that, I had someone print that up for me and I mentioned that to the dealer about the cross contamination. They told me that i was still SOL because it didn't cover corosion on steel body panels, just the aluminum. Go figure...
