so i guess do you use two diodes per light? one inline of the lowbeam wire and one going from highbeam wire to lowbeam wire? like this, for each light?

Only one diode is necessary with relay harness - between hi and lo beam on factory wiring. (no need for the 2nd diode in your diagram). Without a relay set-up, it may not be a bad idea to put one on each side so the juice doesn't have so far to travel. Since you would be routing 12v thru the puny stock wiring from one side all the way to 2nd headlight.

Once upon a time, I almost added the diode to wiring harness on steering column and put the hi & lo together feature on a switch...

Since I don't really like the 'extra' stock headlite plug just hanging out unpluuged, I think I will get a plug for it and put the diode on the plug..

I'll still have to study on this awhile, but I think I can figure it out.

I repeat my earlier suggestion to add a second low-beam relay and have separate fuses and relays for each low-beam light. If you have a short in one circuit or lose a relay, you will have one low-beam headlight to get home with.

Back when I drove a Model A for everyday use, I had so many headlight bulbs burn out and leave me without any headlights that I always carried at least 4 spare headlight bulbs at all times. It gets your attention when you lose all headlights at once on a pitch-dark night.

think of the stripe as a one way valve, it will flow in the direction of the arrow point but won't flow againts the wall/ the opposite way.
